I am more of spicy food person. Whenever my mum does kolukattai she will do special few pieces of kara kolukattai for me. I do this version sometime when we make idiyappam as I use idiyappam flour for making kolukattai. This is a less calorie version.
Steps to make Kara kolukattai:
- Take a bowl add add dosa batter grated carrot grated coconut chopped green chilli coriander leaves chilli powder and salt mix well now for tempring heat the pan add 1 tsp oil when oil is hot add mustard seeds when it starts popping add chanadal and urad dal stir until golden brown in colour add curry leaves switch off the flame when it cool enough add this to dosa batter mix well to pouring consistency
- Heat the paniyaram or appe pan smear little oil in the cavity add spoonful of paniyaram batter cover and cook for 3 minutes on a low flame
- EAfter 3 minutes flip the Kara paniyaram and cook for 3 more minutes yummy and tasty Kara paniyaram is ready serve hot with coconut chutney and hot coffee thank you happy cooking
I do this version sometime when we make idiyappam as I use idiyappam flour for making kolukattai. This is a less calorie version. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal and bengal gram dal, when dal turns golden brown, add red chillies, hing and curry leaves. Then add grated coconut and saute for a few minutes. Kozhukattai (or Modak or Kozhukatta) is a rice dumpling made during Ganesh Chaturthi along with sundal.
